Christmas time in Germany!

I am much more energetic in Germany. Without fail, I woke up at 8.20am this morning instead of sleeping in. Everyone was really busy today, working or going to sport and friends houses.
Three of us ate a nice, typical German breakfast together. The bread here is to die for, I keep forgetting how good it tastes. And the cheese... Yum.
Molly and her went to Kassel today by train and went to the christmad market. I decided not to go because the family said we are going in the holidays anyway.

The youngest boy in the family, Paul went sledding, so I got to go walking with Julia's mum and their beautiful german shepherd, Miak. We went a different way to where I usually go walking and we went past lakes, one which is beginning to freeze over. There were men around getting ready to go fishing. While we were walking, we bumped into one of the neighbours and her dog too.
We walked back to the house and soon after when to the bank and to the supermarket to recycle our bottles, which is what they go in South Australia. It is a bit different here though, You pay a fee for the bottles when you buy you drinks and then went you bring them back, you get your money back, You put the bottles into the machine and it tells you how much they are worth.

When we came home, it was already lunch time and I made potato pancakes with Julia's mother. They are a typical German food and actually sooo easy to make, except you have to use so much oil. Slowly everyone came home to eat and then after a while we decided to watch a movie together. It was a German film, 'Zwei Ohr Küken' and it was great. I am thinking of buying the DVD myself...

When everyone was ready to go, we finally headed to the christmas market. We met Molly and her dad there and we all walked around the market. The christmas market in Marburg is around the main church, and they also had a service on. We walking around and I bought some small gifts for friends and some much needed postcards to send to Australia. We ate crepes and at the christmas markets and during winter they have 'Glühwein', which is cherry wine, warmed up and with rum or amaretto in it. I tried that too and it really warms you up. Most of us went into the rest of the city and walked around the shops, looking around and I took lots of photos, but it is horrible trying to take photos when it is snowing.

We walked past one of the houses right in the centre of Marburg and Julia's parents pointed out that they got married there, so they asked if we would like to go in and we went under the house, into the pub. There was a soccer game on and Julia's dad's team, Bayern were playing and losing... We left after I while and watched back through the city to Julia's Oma's house and said hello. We shoved 9 people into the VW people carrier and went home to the warmth.

I am not sure what we are doing tomorrow, but Molly's dad is leaving Germany, so we have to say goodbye. It is also my day in our advent calendar tomorrow! :)
